This recording is very interesting ‘cause the “alterations in the Allegro Assai section were made by Mozart for a 1789 revival of the opera in Vienna. No score of this version was believed to exist until Christopher Raeburn discovered one in Florence penned by Lausch, the most frequent copier of Mozart’s music. In 2005, Thomas Hampson recorded an album featuring some of the same Haydn and Mozart arias recorded by DFD.” It’s possible that the alterations sung here by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau are written by Mozart for the 1789 version of the opera.
This of the Count of Almaviva is my role in the opera, in these days, but I sing the Allegro Assai without variations.
